Italy coach Donadoni gets contract extension offer

ROME (AP) - Italy coach Roberto Donadoni has received an offer to extend his contract.

"The (Italian) soccer federation has made me an offer, I've made my assessment. Now let's see if something comes of it," Donadoni was quoted as saying by ANSA news agency on Monday.

Donadoni's current contract expires after the 2008 European Championship in June.

Media reports have previously suggested that the federation wants to grant him an extension only if Italy makes it to the final stages of Euro 2008.

Donadoni denied suggestions the contract talks would affect him ahead of the tournament.

"To me the current situation does not represent a problem," Donadoni said. "I am going into it (Euro 2008) with great enthusiasm."

The 44-year-old Donadoni replaced Marcello Lippi, who left after leading Italy to the World Cup title in 2006.
