Chivas defender Rodriguez to transfer to PSV Eindhoven

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Defender Francisco 'Maza' Rodriguez of Mexico's Chivas will transfer to Holland's PSV Eindhoven.

Chivas vice president Nestor de la Torre said in a statement posted Friday on the team's Web site that Rodriguez's contract will be for three years with the possibility of a two-year extension.

De la Torre did not reveal the terms of the deal.

In 2006, PSV paid €5 million (US$6.8 million) for then Chivas defender Carlos Salcido.

"We had been pursuing this for about eight months ... there were calls and visits and they say 'Maza' meets all the requirements to be a PSV player and shore up the team's defense," de la Torre said.

Rodriguez will finish playing the Mexican Clausura tournament before traveling to Holland, he said.

Rodriguez hade his debut in Mexican soccer in 2002 when he played a couple of matches with Chivas in the Mexican Apertura tournament. He has played 185 games with the team and is a member of Mexico's national team.
