Mascherano called by Argentina for friendlies

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - Liverpool striker Javier Mascherano was added to Argentina's roster Monday for upcoming friendlies against Mexico and the United States, bolstering its roster for the North American tour.

Mascherano joins teammates Martin Demichelis of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid's Fernando Cavenaghi and Jonas Gutierrez of Real Mallorca, who began training Monday at the team's headquarters, the Argentine Football Association said.

Argentina faces Mexico in San Diego on June 4, four days after they play the United States in New York - all in preparation for upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Ecuador and Brazil in mid-June.

Lionel Messi, from Barcelona and Sergio Aguero, form Atletico Madrid, were to join the team Tuesday.
